How do I order a Motability Scooter or electric wheelchair?

Find a dealer

Motability work with trained dealers in your area who will come to your home with a selection of products for you to try. You can find your nearest dealer by visiting www.motability.co.uk/scooters or by calling 0800 953 3060

Your dealer will take care of everything

Motability want you to choose the scooter or electric wheelchair that’s right for you. Your chosen dealer will come to your home to assess your needs and see how the product will fit around your home and your lifestyle. They can bring several products for you to try, alternatively you can visit a dealer showroom to see a wider range of models.

Try more than one scooter or electric wheelchair to make sure it is right for you.

Discuss your needs with your dealer and they will give you advice and answer your questions.  Have a friend or family member with you to help you make your choice.

Ordering your scooter or electric wheelchair

When you have chosen your scooter or electric wheelchair the dealer will complete the ordering process with you.

You will need:

  • Certificate of entitlement
  • Proof of address

After the dealer has processed your order, Motability will send you a letter welcoming you to the scheme and will include your Personal Identification Number (PIN). Keep your PIN number in a safe place. You will need to give your PIN number to your dealer when they deliver your scooter or electric wheelchair.

Receiving your Motability scooter or electric wheelchair

Your dealer will call you when your scooter or electric wheelchair is ready to be delivered.  They will arrange a time to deliver your new scooter or electric wheelchair to you, or for you to go to them and collect your new scooter or electric wheelchair.

Your dealer will show you how everything works and will let you have a test drive to make sure it suits your needs.  They will also give you a welcome pack and handbook to help you throughout your lease. Ask the dealer any questions you have.

Throughout your lease, your dealer will handle everything for you, including servicing, maintenance, and repairs.

Using your product

Only the person in receipt of the mobility allowance can use the scooter or electric wheelchair. It cannot be used by anyone else at any time.

You need to store your scooter somewhere safe and secure, such as a locked garaged or shed. This also need to have a power supply so you can charge your scooter or electric wheelchair overnight.
