How does my mobility allowance pay for my new scooter or electric wheelchair?
Motability organises the relevant payments to be deducted from your mobility allowance every four weeks, then paid directly to Motability by your benefit payment agency. As most scooters or electric wheelchair cost less than your weekly allowance, you receive the remainder directly from your benefit payment agency to spend however you choose.

Motability take care of everything
You can choose a new scooter or electric wheelchair every 3 years
You can choose from a wide range of new scooters and electric wheelchairs every 3 years. At the end of your 3-year lease you will receive a £100 End of Contract Bonus. Most scooters and electric wheelchairs will cost less than your weekly allowance leaving you some money to spend however you choose.
Insurance
Motability include an insurance package which provides cover in case of an accident, damage, or theft of your scooter or electric wheelchair. You’re also covered for any damage caused by your scooter or electric wheelchair to other products, property, or people.
Servicing and maintenance
To keep your scooter or electric wheelchair reliable and in good condition, all servicing and maintenance is included as part of Motability’s worry-free package.
Breakdown recovery
If you breakdown or get a puncture, you just call Motability Assist on 0800 953 5000. They will make sure to get you and your product home where you can then arrange any repairs with your dealer.
Battery replacement
Your scooter or electric wheelchair will come with a battery as standard, all you do is keep it charged. If anything goes wrong through normal everyday use, Motability will replace your battery free of charge.
Tyre replacement
For no extra cost Motability will repair or replace your tyres if there is a problem.
Your choice of optional extra
Your lease package includes a weatherproof storage cover to protect your product when it’s not in use. However, if you already have a cover, you can choose another accessory up to the value of £35.
