On 16 March 2026, organisations across the UK will mark Young Carers Action Day — a national moment to recognise, value, and support the vital role young carers play in our communities. This year continues the focus on protecting their future: helping them access opportunities, stay well, and realise their potential.
About Warwickshire Young Carers
Warwickshire Young Carers is an independent charity supporting young people aged 6–25 who care for a relative with a long-term illness, disability, mental health condition, or substance/alcohol dependency. Over 2,700 young carers are registered locally — and many more remain unseen.
What Does a Young Carer Do?
- Help with getting up, moving around the home, or personal care
- Administer or organise medication and appointments
- Prepare meals and manage household tasks
- Provide emotional support and companionship
The Impact
Caring can bring pride and connection — but it can also mean missed social time, higher stress, interrupted education, and fewer chances to take a proper break. Young carers often shoulder responsibility far beyond their years.
How Warwickshire Young Carers Helps
- 1-to-1 mentoring and practical support
- Group activities, socials, and respite opportunities
- Information, advice, and guidance for families
- Work with schools and services to reduce inappropriate caring
Why the Day Matters
Young Carers Action Day is about more than awareness — it’s about action. It’s a call for schools to offer flexibility, communities to be inclusive, employers to recognise future young adult carers, and policy-makers to commit to lasting change.
