Safe, secure seating for people who move involuntarily or need extra stability
For someone living with strong or involuntary movements, an ordinary chair can feel unsafe, and caring for them can be a worry. The Repose Harlem Porter is designed to give a real sense of comfort, safety and security, with a deep padded seat, plenty of adjustment and a very stable base.
It's also an excellent choice for people who are frail and need a supportive chair they can be wheeled about in. The back reclines independently, the seat angle and depth can be set to suit the user, and a central castor under the sliding footplate adds stability where it's needed most.
✅ Key Features & Benefits
Designed for severe or involuntary movement
Every part of the chair is engineered to keep the user secure and comfortable, giving carers and families peace of mind.Sliding footplate with central castor
An extra castor under the footplate keeps the chair steady, even when the user moves suddenly or shifts their weight.Deep padded seat
Cushions the body and helps the user settle well back into the chair.Interchangeable back and pressure-care cushions
Choose the support and pressure care that suit the person, and change them if needs change.Independent back recline
Sit up for meals and activities, then recline to rest.Seat angle and depth adjustment
Set the seat so the user is held well back and supported along the thighs, reducing the tendency to slide forward.Heavy-duty lockable castors and push handle
Easy for a carer to push and steer, with rubber grips and castors that lock firmly.D-rings fitted as standard
Ready for a lap strap and pad if extra security is advised.
Who it suits best
- People with conditions causing severe or involuntary movement
- Frail users who need a secure, supportive chair
- Carers who need to move the user safely between rooms
- Users up to 20 stone (127 kg)
Worth knowing before you buy
The Harlem Porter doesn't tilt in space or rise to help the user stand. If regular repositioning for pressure care is the main need, a tilt-in-space porter chair may be better; if the user can still get up with a little help, consider a riser recliner. Because it's used for complex needs, we always recommend an assessment so the cushions and options are set up correctly.

More questions about healthcare chairs
What is a healthcare chair?
It's specialist seating for people who sit for long periods, often with tilt, pressure-relieving cushioning and adjustable sections. They're used at home and in care settings.
Healthcare chair or rise and recline chair?
A riser recliner helps you stand and relax. A healthcare chair gives more support and pressure care for people who spend much of the day seated or need a carer's help.
Can a healthcare chair be moved around?
Many have castors so a carer can move them from room to room. Check each product page for the features of that model.
Can you help me choose?
Yes. Call 01789 339 738 and tell us about the person who'll be using it. We'll help you find the right size and level of support.
Can I get VAT relief?
If you have a long-term illness or disability and it's for your own personal use, you may be able to buy qualifying products without paying VAT. Just ask us and we'll help you with the simple declaration.
