Selling your mobility scooter or wheelchair

It's one of the questions we're asked most. Yes — we do sometimes buy mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs, and we can also sell yours for you through a commission sale. Here's how it works and what we look for.

  • Up to around 4 years old considered
  • Within about 30 miles of Stratford
  • Or donate it to Shopmobility

Three ways forward

Which one suits you depends on the equipment, its condition and how quickly you want it gone. We'll tell you honestly which we think is best once we've seen it.

We buy it from you

If it's something we know we can sell on, we may buy it outright. You get a straightforward offer and it's off your hands.

We sell it for you

A commission sale. We prepare it, list it and sell it on your behalf, then pass the proceeds on to you less an agreed commission.

You donate it

Give it to Stratford Shopmobility, the local charity, where it can help someone else get around town. More about donating.

What we look for

We can only take on equipment we'd be happy to sell to someone else, so it needs to be in genuinely good order.

  • No more than around four years old
  • In excellent condition
  • Fully working and well looked after
Being realistic about value. Mobility equipment depreciates like anything else, so the second-hand value is usually quite a bit lower than the original purchase price. It's worth knowing that before you start. If you have a figure in mind, tell us — it gives us a starting point and means we can guide you properly.

Where we can collect from

We're in Stratford-upon-Avon, CV37 0HT. Collecting larger mobility equipment takes a van and two people, so we can usually only consider scooters and electric wheelchairs from within about 30 miles of us.

Live further away? If you're happy to bring it to us, that's absolutely fine and we'd still be glad to take a look.

How to find us

What to send us

Nice and simple. The more you can tell us, the quicker we can come back to you with the options.

  1. A few clear photos. The whole scooter or chair, plus anything you think we should see — wear, damage, the seat, the tyres.
  2. The basics. Make, model, roughly how old it is and how it's been looked after. A service history helps if you have one.
  3. A price in mind. If you have one. It isn't essential, but it gives us a starting point.

Not sure what to send? Don't worry about getting it perfect. Send over what you can and we'll help from there.

Tell us about your scooter or wheelchair

Send us the details and a few photos and we'll come back to you with the options available — whether that's buying it, selling it for you, or pointing you towards donating it.

Rather just talk it through?

If you're not sure which option is best, give us a ring and we'll happily talk it through with you. No pressure either way.

Not worried about selling it?

You could donate it to Stratford Shopmobility instead. As a local charity they're always incredibly grateful for donations, and your scooter or wheelchair helps people who need a bit of extra help getting around town.

Depending on its condition it may be serviced and added to the hire fleet, or used for parts to keep other equipment safely on the road. Either way it goes on helping people stay mobile and independent.
