It carries riders up to 35 stone (220 kg), with a reinforced frame and an extra-wide seat, so you can head out knowing it's built for you.

It's a Class 3 road scooter with a top speed of 6 mph and a range of up to 36 miles. The seat was developed with therapists to support good posture, and the suspension can be set to your weight, so trips to town or along the seafront feel steady and relaxed.

Worth knowing before you buy

The Comet Ultra weighs 148 kg with its batteries and measures 145 cm long, so it needs a good-sized garage or scooter store and won't go in a car. It needs about 137.5 cm to turn, which makes it less nimble in small shops than a compact pavement scooter. Its top speed is 6 mph rather than 8 mph — if speed matters more to you than weight capacity, a standard Class 3 scooter may suit you better. As a road scooter it needs registering with the DVLA, which is free.
