A gentle push when you need it, without giving up your active chair

If you use an active wheelchair, you probably love how light and free it feels — until a long hill, a big day out or tired shoulders get in the way. The SMOOV one, made by Alber and supplied through Invacare, is a compact power drive that clips onto the back of your chair and does the hard work for you.

You control it from a small wireless hand unit fixed to your chair. Take it off when you don't need it and you're back to your usual, nimble wheelchair. You can even attach and detach it while you're sitting in the chair.

✅ Key Features & Benefits

• Clips on and off while you're seated
No need to get out of your chair or ask for help, so you choose when to use power and when to push.

• Up to 20 km (12 miles) per charge
Enough for a long day out, a countryside trail or a commute without worrying about tired arms.

• Only 7.2 kg
Light enough to lift into the car and carry indoors, so it fits easily into an active lifestyle.

• Wireless Bluetooth hand control
A small control unit sits neatly on your chair, giving simple, precise control over speed.

• Saves your shoulders
Less pushing on hills and long distances can help protect your shoulders and wrists over the years.

• Fits folding and rigid active chairs
Works with both types of frame, so it suits most active wheelchair users.

• Handy app and USB socket
The SMOOV Mobility App shows your battery level and remaining range, and the USB socket keeps your phone charged.

Who it suits best

• Active wheelchair users who want help on hills and longer trips
• People who want to protect their shoulders for the long term
• Users up to 140 kg (22 st)

Worth knowing before you buy

The SMOOV one is designed for active wheelchairs, so we'll always check your chair is compatible first. It drives from behind and is controlled by you, so it isn't the right choice if a carer does the pushing — an attendant-controlled power pack would suit better. If you want power to both wheels with push-rim assistance, power-assist wheels are another option to compare.

Questions customers ask us

Will it fit my wheelchair?
It suits most folding and rigid active wheelchairs. Tell us your chair's make and model and we'll confirm.

How fast does it go?
It has a top speed of 10 km/h (about 6 mph), and you control your speed from the hand unit.

Can I try it?
Yes. We don't keep every model in stock, so ring us first — we'll check, and can usually arrange a demo unit fitted to your chair.
