If you lean to one side in an ordinary chair, or feel unsteady when you sit for long spells, the Cosi Iconic Lateral Back is designed with you in mind. Shaped side cushions hug you gently and keep you upright, while four separate motors let you fine-tune the headrest, lower back support, recline and leg rest.

It also tilts back as a whole into a Zero Gravity position that spreads your weight evenly, which many people find deeply restful. When it's time to get up, the chair lifts you at the angle set for you and eases the backrest forward, so standing feels steadier and more controlled. It's handmade in Britain in three sizes.

Worth knowing before you buy

This is Cosi's top-of-the-range chair, with lots of adjustment. If you simply need help standing and a place to raise your legs, a dual motor riser recliner will do the job for less. The lift angle is chosen when the chair is ordered, so it's worth getting it right with us first. If a carer needs to move you around the house in the chair, look at a porter or healthcare chair on castors instead.

Questions customers ask us

Which size do I need?
Seat heights are 47 cm (Small), 50.8 cm (Medium) and 53.3 cm (Large). Your feet should rest flat with your hips level with or slightly above your knees. We'll help you measure.

Is it hard to get back to sitting from a recline?
No. A single reset button on the handset brings the chair back to a normal seated position from any recline or lift.

Can I try it before buying?
