When you push yourself everywhere, every extra kilo shows up in your shoulders by the evening. The QUICKIE QS7 R is Sunrise Medical's newest rigid active wheelchair, and it is about as light as an adjustable rigid chair gets: from 4.9 kg once the wheels are off.

It is built for people who want a chair that responds the moment they push, then packs away without fuss. Two grab bars give you somewhere sensible to hold when you lift it, the backrest folds down one-handed, and an optional FrontFold tucks the front of the frame under the seat to make the car-boot shape even smaller.

Worth knowing before you buy

A rigid chair doesn't fold side to side like a folding chair — you take the wheels off and fold the back down instead. If you'd rather fold the whole chair in one movement, a folding active wheelchair may suit you better. The QS7 R is made to measure, so we'll need to assess you, and it takes a few weeks to build. The price is for the standard set-up; options are quoted separately.

The frame weighs from 4.9 kg with the wheels off (from 7.5 kg complete), and the grab bars make it easier to handle.
