Many people who use a wheelchair every day want two things that rarely come together: a chair that folds small for the car, and one that still feels firm and lively when you push. The QUICKIE QS7 X, new from Sunrise Medical, is built to give you both.

Its 7000-series aluminium frame starts at 6.7 kg with the wheels off, and the fold has been redesigned so it closes with less effort and stays upright on its own. Fold-N-Lock then clicks it shut, so you're not wrestling a chair that keeps springing open while you lift it into the boot.

Worth knowing before you buy

The QS7 X is made to measure, so it needs a proper assessment and takes a few weeks to arrive. The standard Front Fold version is rated to 110 kg; if you weigh more, the Hybrid frame is the one to choose. If you never need to fold the chair and want the most efficient push, a rigid active wheelchair may suit you better. The price shown is for the standard set-up — options are extra and we'll quote them clearly.

Will it fit in my car?
Very likely. It folds and locks shut, and with the Front Fold option the folded size is up to 45% smaller than a conventional fold.

Can I try one before I buy?
