Your Questions Answered
Straight answers to the questions people ask us most about walking aids.
Which walking aid is right for me?
A walking stick gives a little extra balance, a tripod or quad stick gives more support, and a frame or rollator suits you if you need to lean on it with both hands.
How do I get the right walking stick height?
Stand up straight in your usual shoes with your arms by your sides. The handle should be level with the crease of your wrist.
Which hand should I hold my stick in?
Usually the hand opposite your weaker or painful leg, so the stick moves forward with that leg. Your GP or physio can advise you too.
How often should I change the rubber tip?
Check the tip (the ferrule) regularly and replace it when the tread is worn smooth or split, as a worn tip can slip.
Can I get VAT relief?
If you have a long-term illness or disability and it's for your own personal use, you may be able to buy qualifying products without paying VAT. Just ask us and we'll help you with the simple declaration.
