Comfortable, well-supported sitting for people who spend long hours in their chair

When you sit for most of the day, an ordinary wheelchair can lead to slumping, sore skin and aching joints. Tilting the whole seat back shifts your weight off the most pressured areas and helps you stay upright and comfortable. The Rea Azalea from Invacare is a tilt-in-space wheelchair designed for exactly that.

A carer can tilt the seat up to 25° and recline the backrest up to 30° with easy gas-assisted controls. Because the chair keeps itself balanced as it moves, it stays stable and your position stays steady.

✅ Key Features & Benefits

  • Tilt up to 25° and recline up to 30°
Changing position through the day helps ease pressure on the bottom and hips and lets you rest without being lifted out of the chair.

  • Stays stable as it tilts
Invacare's Dual Stability System moves the seat forward and down as it tilts and reclines, so the chair feels secure rather than tippy.

  • Moves with your body
The pivot points match your natural joints, which helps reduce dragging (shear) on the skin when the position changes.

  • Adjustable Flex 3 backrest
Width and height adjust, and it takes postural support cushions, so the back can be shaped around your needs as they change.

  • Transit or self-propel wheels
Have small wheels for a carer to push, or larger wheels if you can still move yourself around.

  • Wide range of seat sizes
Seat widths from 390 to 590 mm, adjustable depth (430–500 mm) and two seat heights help get a proper, supportive fit.

  • Crash tested
Suitable for travelling seated in a suitably adapted vehicle.

Colours available

Pearl Grey, Azurite Blue, Sand, Happy Red and Electric Green.

Who it suits best

  • People who sit for long periods and need help changing position
  • Anyone at risk of pressure sores or who tends to slump
  • Carers who want easy, safe tilt and recline controls
  • Users up to 135 kg (21 st)

Worth knowing before you buy

This is a larger, heavier chair than a standard wheelchair — about 34 kg, with a heaviest part of 16.5 kg — so it's not ideal for lifting into a small car boot. The tilt and recline are worked by the person pushing, unless you choose the optional electric version. If you're independent and want a light chair to propel all day, an active wheelchair will suit you better.

Questions customers ask us

Does it come with a seat cushion?
It's usually supplied with a seat board, so the right pressure-care cushion can be chosen for you separately. We'll help you pick one.

Can we see it working?
Yes. We don't always have one in, so call us first — we'll check, and if needed arrange a demo chair or bring one to a free home assessment.

More questions about tilt-in-space wheelchairs

What is a tilt-in-space wheelchair?

The whole seat tilts back while your hip and knee angles stay the same. This moves pressure off the bottom and back and helps people stay comfortable when they sit for long periods.

Who is a tilt-in-space wheelchair for?

It suits people who can't easily change position themselves, need head and trunk support, or are cared for at home and want to get out comfortably.

Who pushes a tilt-in-space wheelchair?

These chairs are usually pushed by a carer, who also controls the tilt. The product page shows how each model works.

Can you help me choose the right one?

Yes. We offer free home assessments, so we can check the size, the support needed and your home's access. Call 01789 339 738 to book.

Can I get VAT relief?

If you have a long-term illness or disability and it's for your own personal use, you may be able to buy qualifying products without paying VAT. Just ask us and we'll help you with the simple declaration.
