Keep your own wheelchair and let a motor take the strain
If pushing your manual wheelchair up slopes, over grass or along long pavements leaves your shoulders sore and your energy spent, a power add-on can change your day. The Benoit Systems Light Drive² clips onto the chair you already use and turns it into a light electric chair in seconds.
You steer with a small joystick, and when you want to push yourself again, one lever frees the wheels. You keep the chair that fits you, with the option of power whenever you need it — on hills, gravel paths, longer trips and tired days.
✅ Key Features & Benefits
Fits on in under 20 seconds
Put it on when you head out and take it off when you're home. A real help if you only need power for longer or hillier trips.Back to pushing with one lever
Disengage the motor and your chair freewheels as normal, so you can still self-propel indoors or keep up your exercise.Simple joystick control
Gentle, precise steering with one hand. An attendant control is available as an option if a carer would like to drive.Power pack of just 8.8 kg
Light enough to lift into the car and carry indoors, with the 4 kg battery coming off separately.14 to 20 km (9 to 12 miles) per charge
Enough for a good day out. Range depends on the weather, your weight and the ground you cover.Copes with slopes, grass and gravel
Two motors drive the wheels directly, so the places that used to stop you become possible again.Approved for air travel
The 12 Ah lithium battery meets airline (IATA) rules, so you can take it on holiday.
Colours available
Lime Green, Pink, Gold, Grey, Blue, Black and Red.
Who it suits best
- Manual wheelchair users whose arms or shoulders tire on longer trips
- Carers who find pushing up slopes hard work
- People who want to keep their own well-fitting chair
- Anyone who travels, including by plane
Worth knowing before you buy
The Light Drive² is designed for users up to about 120 kg (18 st). Benoit say it adapts to most wheelchairs, but some complex chairs need checking first, so we always confirm compatibility with your chair before you order. If you need power all day, every day, or more postural support than your manual chair gives, a full electric wheelchair may suit you better.
Questions customers ask us
Will it fit my wheelchair?
It adapts to most manual wheelchairs. Tell us the make and model, or book a free home assessment, and we'll check before you commit.
How long does it take to charge?
About 5 to 6 hours from flat. The battery lifts off, so you can charge it indoors.
Can I try it first?
Yes. We don't keep every model in stock, so call us first and we'll check — if it isn't here, we can usually arrange a demo unit.

More questions about power add-ons
What is a power add-on?
It's a motor that fits to your manual wheelchair to give you power when you want it. Options include push-assist wheels, rear drive units and front attachments that turn your chair into a power trike.
Power add-on or electric wheelchair: which is better?
A power add-on lets you keep the chair you know and is lighter to take in the car. If you can't push yourself at all or need powered support all day, an electric wheelchair is usually the better choice.
How far will it go on a charge?
Range varies from model to model and depends on hills, your weight and the ground, so check the figure on each product page and ask us about your usual routes.
Can I get VAT relief?
If you have a long-term illness or disability and it's for your own personal use, you may be able to buy qualifying products without paying VAT. Just ask us and we'll help you with the simple declaration.
