A sturdy high-seat chair that makes standing up easier

When you've become wary of sitting down in case you can't get back up, the right chair makes a big difference. The Cosi Breydon is a practical high-seat fireside chair with long wooden handgrips and shaped arm cushions, giving you something solid to hold as you rise.

It's a simple, good-value chair without motors or buttons. The seat cushion zips off and can be swapped for a specialist pressure cushion if your needs change — handy if you sit for much of the day.

• Anyone who may need a pressure-care cushion now or later

Worth knowing before you buy

The Breydon is deliberately practical: it doesn't recline, lift or raise your legs, and it's firmer than a soft lounge armchair. If you'd like help to stand at the press of a button, look at a riser recliner. If you want a softer, more traditional look for the living room, a sprung fireside chair may suit you better. The guarantee is one year.
