The Drive DeVilbiss AutoFold does the folding for you. Press the button on the remote fob and it folds or opens on its own.

It's a sturdy electric wheelchair, also known as a powerchair, that takes riders up to 23.6 stone (150 kg), with front suspension for a more comfortable ride. When it's folded it's ready for the car, a train, a coach or a flight.

Worth knowing before you buy

The AutoFold weighs about 28 kg without its battery, so although it folds itself, it still needs lifting into a car — you may need a helper or a car boot hoist. Its range is up to 7.5 miles (12 km), which is shorter than many powerchairs, so it suits shorter outings unless you carry a spare battery. It's rated for slopes up to 6°. If you need a chair you can lift on your own, look at a carbon fibre folding powerchair instead.
