Road-scooter freedom in a size that's easy to handle
Lots of people want the extra speed of a road scooter but worry that a big one will feel too much to manage. The Invacare Orion Metro is the answer we often suggest. It's a Class 3 scooter, so you can ride on the road at up to 8 mph and flick down to 4 mph on the pavement — yet it's the most compact and manoeuvrable road scooter in Invacare's range.
Suspension front and rear, 11-inch wheels and steering that's been designed to feel light and natural make it pleasant to drive, whether you're heading into town, out to the garden centre or across to a friend's in the next village.
✅ Key Features & Benefits
Compact, nimble road scooter
Easier to park, store and steer than a large Class 3 scooter, which builds confidence if you're stepping up from a pavement model.Automatic slowing on bends
The scooter reduces its speed as you turn, so corners feel controlled and you stay steady in the seat.Front and rear suspension with 11-inch wheels
Absorbs bumps, potholes and rough paving, so fewer jolts travel through your back and shoulders.Light, responsive steering
The tiller adjusts to your reach and the steering geometry makes turning feel easy — kind on stiff wrists and shoulders.Hand brake and brake light
An extra way to stop when you want to, and a light that warns traffic behind as you slow down.Two-step freewheel lever
Prevents the scooter being put into freewheel by mistake, so it won't roll away when parked.Water and corrosion protection
The motor and electronics are shielded from rain and road spray, which helps the scooter stay reliable through British winters.Tough, scratch-hiding body
A rubberised shroud and colour-through plastics mean everyday scuffs don't spoil the look.
Colours available
Marble White, Sapphire Blue, Jade Green, Luxor Beige, Crystal Copper, Carmine Red, Iconic Chrome, Diamond Silver, Electric Blue and Jasper Red.
Who it suits best
- First-time road scooter riders who want something manageable
- Riders up to 21 stone (136 kg)
- Town and village trips on a mix of roads and pavements
- Homes with a little less storage space
Worth knowing before you buy
The Orion Metro is compact for a road scooter, but it's still a substantial machine at around 110 kg, with the heaviest part 57 kg — it isn't made to go in a car regularly, so a folding or boot scooter is better if you travel with it. If you're over 21 stone, or want the longest range and the plushest ride, look at a larger Class 3 scooter. You'll need dry storage with a power point, and free DVLA registration as a Class 3 vehicle.
Questions customers ask us
Can I use it on the pavement?
Yes. A switch limits it to 4 mph for pavements, and you can use up to 8 mph on the road.
Is it available on Motability?
Yes, the Orion Metro is on the Motability Scheme — ask us and we'll explain the options.
Can I test drive one?
Of course. Give us a call first and we'll check one's in stock. If not, we can usually arrange a demo model for you to drive.

More questions about mobility scooters
How much does a mobility scooter cost?
It depends mostly on the type. Small boot scooters that come apart for the car are the most affordable, and larger 8 mph road scooters cost more. Every price is on the product page. If you have a long-term condition, you may be able to buy it VAT-free.
Will a mobility scooter fit in my car?
Boot scooters fold or come apart into lighter pieces that fit most car boots. Check the weight of the heaviest piece on the product page, and if lifting is a worry a car hoist can do it for you.
Can I try a scooter before I buy?
We don't keep every model in stock, so give us a call on 01789 339 738 first and we'll check it's in our Stratford-upon-Avon showroom. If it isn't, we can usually arrange a demo model for you.
What's included when I buy?
New products come with a 1-year return-to-base warranty, and you can upgrade to labour call-out cover for £55. Delivery to mainland UK is free on the base price, or choose Engineer Delivery (£150, or included where the product says so) and we'll deliver it, assemble it, set it up and show you how to use it.
