When walking is limited, a heavy wheelchair can keep you at home. The Karma I Plus Power is a folding electric wheelchair, also known as a powerchair, that weighs about 19 kg and folds to 41 cm wide, so it fits in a car boot or a hallway cupboard.

It's for anyone who wants to stop relying on being pushed on days out and trips away. Two 150W motors do the work, a simple joystick steers, and the battery lifts out to charge indoors.

Worth knowing before you buy

This is a light travel chair, not an all-day outdoor one. It goes up to 4 mph and about 9 miles per charge, and its small solid wheels prefer pavements and level floors. It isn't crash tested, so you can't stay seated in it in a vehicle. For longer distances, rough ground or tilt seating, a standard or rehab powerchair is a better fit, and we can help you compare.
