Lead-acid scooter batteries are heavy, and lifting one in and out to charge it can put people off going out at all. The Motion Healthcare eFly takes Motion's eTravel design and swaps in a lithium battery that weighs just 2.5 kg, so the whole scooter is lighter and much easier to live with.

It's a simple, practical travel scooter for getting round the shops, the town centre or a holiday resort. It comes apart to go in the car, the seat swivels to help you on and off, and there's a front basket for your bits and pieces.

Worth knowing before you buy

The eFly is built for short, easy trips. Its range is up to 7.5 miles, it has no suspension, small 19 cm wheels and 5 cm ground clearance, so it's best on smooth pavements and indoors. If you want a softer ride or more miles, look at a travel scooter with suspension or a larger battery; if lifting is the main worry, the aluminium eLite is lighter again.

How is it different from the eTravel?
It's the same steel-framed design, but with a lithium battery instead of lead-acid. The battery is 2.5 kg rather than 8.5 kg, so the whole scooter is lighter.

Will it fit in my car?
It comes apart, with the heaviest piece at 15 kg, and measures 102 × 49 cm assembled. Tell us your car and we'll help you check it fits.

Can I try it?
