A folding powerchair that doesn't make larger users compromise

Many folding electric wheelchairs have modest weight limits, which can leave larger users with only heavy, fixed chairs to choose from. The Motion Healthcare Photon HD changes that. Its reinforced carbon fibre frame carries up to 31.5 stone (200 kg), yet the folded chair lifts at about 19 kg once the battery and cushions are off.

You get a wide 53 cm seat with thicker cushions and broader armrests, plus a big battery for up to 13.5 miles. Days out by car are back on the table.

Worth knowing before you buy

The HD's big battery is not suitable for flights, so if you plan to fly, a lighter folding chair with an airline-safe battery is a better choice. Ground clearance is low at 4 cm, so it's best on pavements, paths and indoors rather than rough or grassy ground. Many people will want help lifting it.

Can I take it on a plane?
No. Its 768 Wh battery isn't airline-safe. It's designed for trips by car instead.

How small does it fold?
To about 86 x 71.5 x 41.5 cm, which fits many estate and larger hatchback boots. Tell us your car and we'll help you check.
