Rain, wind and cold mornings keep a lot of scooter riders at home for months at a time. The Motion Healthcare Xplorer Cabin changes that. It's a fully enclosed cabin scooter with car-style doors, sliding windows, a windscreen wiper and its own heater, so you can get to the shops, the surgery or a friend's house in comfort all year round.

It's a Class 3 road scooter, doing up to 8 mph, and this version has the large 110Ah batteries for up to 40 miles per charge. It also carries riders up to 31.5 stone — the highest in Motion's range.

Worth knowing before you buy

This is a large vehicle. It weighs 230 kg, is 160 cm long, 104 cm wide and 162 cm tall, so you'll need a garage or covered, secure space with a socket — and it won't fit through a standard house door. It's Class 3, so it must be registered with the DVLA (free). If you mostly need short trips or want to take a scooter in the car, an open road scooter or a boot scooter will be far easier to live with.
