Many folding electric wheelchairs are wonderfully light but run out of charge just as the day gets going. The Motion Healthcare Aerolite Trekker gets round that with two lithium batteries — use one for a short trip, or both for up to 18 miles.

It folds by hand to go in the car, weighs 32 kg in total, and has a padded captain's seat and front suspension so you stay comfortable along the way. This is a pre-owned chair, so you get all of that for less than the price of a new one.

Worth knowing before you buy

This chair is pre-owned, so it has had a previous user — ask us about its condition and history. At 32 kg it's a light electric wheelchair but still needs some lifting, so if nobody can help you, a car hoist or a lighter folding chair may be worth considering. It's designed for pavements and level paths at up to 4 mph, with a 6° gradient limit, so it isn't for steep hills or rough country.
