Specifications
A rear-wheel drive chair that rides smoothly and grows with your seating needs
If you use an electric wheelchair every day, the ride quality and the seating matter as much as the motors. The Quantum Lightning is a rear-wheel drive electric wheelchair, also known as a powerchair, designed to climb kerbs confidently, soak up bumps and accept proper rehab seating and controls.
It suits people who spend long hours in their chair and need it set up around their body — and who still want a sleek chair that feels responsive on pavements, in shops and around the home.
✅ Key Features & Benefits
ATX suspension with a long-trail front arm
Lifts the front of the chair over kerbs and uneven ground more easily and takes the jolts out of the ride, which is kinder to a sore back, neck or sensitive joints.Accepts rehab seating and powered options
Can be fitted with power tilt and recline and specialist seating, so the chair can be shaped around your posture and pressure care needs.Crash tested, with a tie-down system
Means the chair can be secured properly for travel in an accessible vehicle — reassuring for family and carers on trips out.Adjustable Synergy seat
Four inches of width and depth adjustment, so you sit well supported now and the chair can be adjusted if your needs change.14" air-filled drive tyres
A softer, more cushioned ride outdoors on paths and rougher pavements.R-Net joystick control
Smooth, precise driving, with the option of specialist controls if a standard joystick isn't right for you.Swing-away legrests and removable armrests
Move out of the way for easier transfers in and out of the chair, for you or your carer.
Who it suits best
- Full-time electric wheelchair users
- People who need tilt, recline or postural seating
- Users up to 136 kg (21 stone)
- Everyday use indoors and out, including travel in an adapted vehicle
Worth knowing before you buy
The Lightning is a substantial chair at around 58.5 kg before its batteries go in, so it doesn't fold or come apart for a car boot. Rear-wheel drive chairs are steady and quick outdoors but need a little more room to turn than a mid-wheel drive chair, so if your home has very tight spaces, a mid-wheel drive or compact chair may suit you better. Because it is configured to each person, it's best chosen after an assessment.
