If you love to travel, or simply want a chair that a partner can lift into the car without hurting their back, weight is everything. The QUICKIE Q50 R Carbon is a folding electric wheelchair, also known as a powerchair, with a carbon fibre frame that weighs from just 14.5 kg without its battery.

It folds in one movement without tools, and the battery stays in place while you do it. The lithium battery is approved for air travel, so city breaks, cruises and holidays abroad are back on the cards.

  Far lighter than a typical electric wheelchair, so it is much easier on the shoulders and back of whoever lifts it into the boot.

• Folds without tools
  Folds down to 37 cm deep with the battery still fitted, and a strap holds it together while you lift. It tucks into a car boot, a hallway cupboard or under a hotel bed.

• Airline-approved lithium battery
  The 10Ah battery is IATA approved, so you can take your chair on holiday. Always check with your airline before you fly.

• Add a second battery for longer days
  One battery gives up to 12 km (7.5 miles); an optional second battery doubles that to 24 km (15 miles).

• Charge on or off the chair
  Lift the battery out and charge it indoors, or plug in at the controller while the chair is folded.

• Comfort cushion included
  A memory foam cushion comes with the chair and breathable upholstery helps you stay cool, so longer outings are more comfortable.

• Tight 80 cm turning radius
  Easy to steer round shops, restaurants and hotel rooms.

• Rear brake light and optional attendant control

Worth knowing before you buy

A lightweight folding chair is built for smooth pavements and indoor floors, not rough ground. It climbs obstacles up to 40 mm, and range on one battery is modest, so if you'll be out all day you'll want the second battery. It isn't crash tested, so you must move into a vehicle seat for car journeys. If you need more postural support or plan to drive on grass and gravel, a full-size electric wheelchair is a better choice.

The lithium battery is IATA approved under UN3171, so most airlines accept it. Contact your airline before booking to confirm their rules.

Will it fit in my car?
Folded, it measures about 37 × 57 × 77 cm, so it fits most car boots.

Can I see it fold before I buy?
Of course. We don't keep every model in stock, so call us first and we'll check — if there isn't one here, we can usually arrange a demo model.
