Maybe the walk to the shops has got too much, or you'd like to get to the park, the doctor's or a friend's house without relying on lifts. The Rascal Vista is a mid-size pavement scooter that makes those trips easy again, with a roomy footwell and a proper padded seat.

It goes up to 24 miles on a charge, and front and rear suspension keeps the ride smooth over cracked paving. When you want to take it further afield, it comes apart into six sections for the car boot.

  Solid tyres can't puncture, so there's no worry about a flat on your way home. Choose air-filled for a softer ride.

  A wrap-around handle that lets you rest your hands and steer comfortably — handy if your grip isn't as strong as it was.

• Front shopping basket
  Takes up to 4.5 kg, so your bits of shopping, handbag or a bottle of water ride along with you.

Worth knowing before you buy

The Vista is a 4 mph pavement scooter (Class 2), so it isn't for use on the road. It weighs 74 kg in total, and its heaviest piece is 25 kg, so lifting it into a car is a job for someone reasonably strong. If you'll be loading it on your own every time, a lighter folding scooter may suit you better. For road use, look at a Class 3 scooter.
