Extra power for slopes without the extra weight
You might have found that an entry-level power add-on manages flat pavements well but struggles on the hill up to the shops or the slope out of the car park. The Triride Special Light steps up the power noticeably, yet stays light, so it's still easy to fit and lift.
It attaches to the front of your own manual wheelchair and takes over the pushing. That means more energy for the things you actually went out for — and less wear on your shoulders.
✅ Key Features & Benefits
More power than the entry models
900 W or 1,200 W with 50 Nm of torque (pulling force), so hills and harder ground feel much more manageable.Still light, from 8.5 kg
No heavier than the entry Triride, so lifting it on and off the chair or into the car stays easy for you or a carer.Normal and Sport modes
Gentle and predictable in Normal for busy pavements, or a livelier feel in Sport on open paths.Up to 50 km per charge
Enough for a long day out, with a choice of 36 V or 48 V batteries.Choice of 12" or 14" wheel
Go smaller for nimble handling indoors, or larger for a smoother roll over cracks and kerbs outdoors.Cruise control and five power levels
Set the power for where you are and let cruise control hold your speed so your hand can relax.Reverse, regenerative and disc brakes
Back out of tight spaces and slow down smoothly on steep downhill stretches.AllRoad version available
Comes with an all-terrain tyre and carbon mudguard for gravel, grass and countryside paths.
Who it suits best
- Manual wheelchair users with hills on their regular routes
- People who've outgrown an entry-level add-on
- Anyone who wants more power but needs to keep the weight down
Worth knowing before you buy
The Special Light doesn't fold, so it's not the best pick if you need to pack it small for travel. For very steep or rough off-road ground, a high-torque or dedicated off-road power add-on will cope better. It also has to be matched to your wheelchair, so we'll check your chair before ordering.
Questions customers ask us
How is it different from the Triride Base?
It has a noticeably stronger motor and Normal/Sport modes, while weighing about the same — so it's the step up if hills are your main challenge.
Can I have a go on one?
Yes. Not every Triride is kept in stock, so please call us first to check — if it isn't here, we can usually arrange a demo model.

More questions about power add-ons
What is a power add-on?
It's a motor that fits to your manual wheelchair to give you power when you want it. Options include push-assist wheels, rear drive units and front attachments that turn your chair into a power trike.
Will it fit my wheelchair?
Most fit a wide range of manual wheelchairs, but it depends on your frame. Tell us the make and model of your chair on 01789 339 738 and we'll check, or book a free home assessment.
Power add-on or electric wheelchair: which is better?
A power add-on lets you keep the chair you know and is lighter to take in the car. If you can't push yourself at all or need powered support all day, an electric wheelchair is usually the better choice.
How far will it go on a charge?
Range varies from model to model and depends on hills, your weight and the ground, so check the figure on each product page and ask us about your usual routes.
Can I get VAT relief?
If you have a long-term illness or disability and it's for your own personal use, you may be able to buy qualifying products without paying VAT. Just ask us and we'll help you with the simple declaration.
