Pride Baja Bandit Review: An 8 mph Scooter That Still Comes Apart for the Car - Active Mobility Ltd

Most 8 mph scooters are too big to go in a car. The Pride Baja Bandit is one of the few that does. It's one of Mike's Choice scooters, and here's why, along with the one thing to think about first.

The short version

"It's a mid-size scooter that does 8 mph and still breaks down to fit in a car. That's very rare. It's trendy looking, nippy and very manoeuvrable."

Price £2,995 with the 20 Ah battery, £3,395 with the 40 Ah battery, with engineer delivery and set-up at home
Speed 8 mph
Carries Up to 28 stone (181 kg)
Range About 14.5 miles (20 Ah) or 29 miles (40 Ah)
Heaviest part 37.2 kg
Colours Sage or Tan

What Mike loves

  • Speed and portability in one. "You get 8 mph, but you can still take it apart and put it in the car. You don't find that often."
  • Independent suspension. It smooths out bumpy paths and grass, so the ride stays comfortable.
  • A choice of battery. "There's a 20 Ah or a 40 Ah battery." The bigger battery roughly doubles the range, so it's worth it if you go out for the day.
  • Solid or air tyres. Air tyres give a softer ride. Solid tyres can't puncture.
  • The looks and the handling. "It looks trendy, it's nippy and it turns in a tight space."

What to think about first

"The battery pack and the rear motor assembly are heavy. If you'll be bending to take it apart and lift it into the car, think about the weight of each piece." The heaviest part is 37.2 kg. That's like lifting 37 bags of sugar at once, so most people will want a helper or a car hoist. If lifting is a worry, we can recommend a car hoist and arrange a demonstration at your home. Our post on folding vs portable scooters explains more about weights.

Who it suits

The Baja Bandit suits you if you want the speed of a road scooter but need to take it in the car, for days out, holidays or visiting family. If you'll never put it in a car and have a garage, a bigger scooter like the ScooterPac Ignite gives you more range and comfort for the money.

Mike's advice before you buy

"Before you spend a lot of money on a scooter and features you think you need, come and talk to us. We'll put your needs in perspective and advise you on what's right for you, not just what you think might suit you."
