Who Else Sells Specialist Electric and Active Wheelchairs Near Stratford-upon-Avon? (2026 Guide) - Active Mobility Ltd

If you are looking for a specialist electric wheelchair, an active manual wheelchair or individually prescribed seating, it is completely normal to want to talk to more than one supplier first. These are significant purchases. The chair you choose may be something you sit in for most of the day, every day, for several years, so it needs to fit your body, your home, your car and the way you live.

Because we are often asked who else offers this kind of service locally, we have put together this guide to other specialist wheelchair suppliers in Warwickshire and the surrounding Midlands, within roughly 30 miles of Stratford-upon-Avon. It is meant to help you compare your options, not to steer you towards anyone in particular.

What Is a Prescriptive Wheelchair?

A prescriptive wheelchair is one that is specified and configured for one individual user, rather than bought "off the shelf" in a standard size. Seat width and depth, backrest height and angle, footplate position, wheel size, centre of gravity, cushions, controls and many other details can all be chosen and adjusted to suit the person who will use it.

This applies to prescriptive electric wheelchairs (also known as powerchairs), to lightweight active manual wheelchairs, and to specialist postural seating. Many manual wheelchair users also add a powered add-on, a unit that attaches to the chair to give extra assistance on longer distances, hills or rough ground.

Why an individual assessment matters

Because there are so many possible settings, an assessment is usually the first step. A good assessment looks at your posture, your strength and stamina, any pressure care needs, where you will use the chair, how it will be transported and what you want to be able to do. A chair that is the wrong size or poorly set up can lead to discomfort, poor posture, pressure problems or sore shoulders, even if it is an excellent product.

If you would like to see the kinds of chairs we are talking about in this guide, you can browse examples of custom electric wheelchairs, active wheelchairs and power add-ons for manual wheelchairs.

Specialist Wheelchair Suppliers Near Stratford-upon-Avon

The companies below all publicly advertise individual wheelchair assessments, individually configured wheelchairs or specialist seating, and have a base within approximately 30 miles of Stratford-upon-Avon. Whether you are looking for custom electric wheelchairs in the Midlands, active wheelchair assessments or a specialist wheelchair assessment near Stratford-upon-Avon, they are worth knowing about. They are listed in alphabetical order, which is not a ranking. The details come from each company's own website, checked in October 2026. Services, opening arrangements and addresses can change, so please contact them directly before you visit.

Lifestyle & Mobility (Rugby)

www.lifestyleandmobility.co.uk

Lifestyle & Mobility is a mobility retailer with stores and assessment centres in several parts of England. Its Rugby location, at Parkfield Business Park on Western Relief Road (CV21 1QJ), is listed as by appointment only, so it is not a walk-in shop and you will need to arrange a visit in advance. The company advertises free home and in-store assessments and describes many of its wheelchairs and powerchairs as prescriptive products that should be assessed before purchase. Its range includes specialist electric wheelchairs, lightweight folding and rigid active wheelchairs, tilt-in-space chairs and a wide selection of front, rear and wheel-mounted powered add-ons. It also points out that prescriptive products have a base price that can change considerably once options are added.

Lightweight Mobility & Seating (Bishops Itchington)

www.lightweightmobilityandseating.co.uk

Lightweight Mobility & Seating has a showroom on Gaydon Road in Bishops Itchington (CV47 2QW), near junction 12 of the M40, and also offers home visits. The company describes itself as a rehabilitation equipment specialist for adults and children, with more than 35 years' experience in the sector. It supplies specialist lightweight wheelchairs, powerchairs and seating, including postural seating and pressure care solutions. For specialist wheelchairs, trikes and static seating, it says assessments are carried out in your home or workplace, so that equipment can be chosen around the place where it will actually be used. It also says it works with healthcare professionals and encourages them to be involved in choosing the right product where appropriate.

Magbility and MagRehab (Wythall, Bromsgrove and Worcester)

magbility.co.uk and magrehab.com

Magbility is a family-run mobility business with three West Midlands showrooms: Becketts Farm in Wythall (B47 6AJ), Sanders Road Industrial Estate in Bromsgrove (B61 7DG) and Bromwich Lane, St Johns, in Worcester (WR2 4BH). Alongside general mobility products, Magbility says its seating specialists can carry out assessments at home or in one of its showrooms. Its sister business, MagRehab, focuses on rehabilitation equipment for adults and children, including active, tilt-in-space and paediatric manual wheelchairs, front, mid and rear-wheel-drive powered wheelchairs with specialist controls, and Alber power-assist add-ons. MagRehab says it works with wheelchair users, families and professionals such as occupational therapists and case managers, and offers servicing and support throughout the life of the equipment.

Midshires Mobility Group and Sutton Mobility (Sutton Coldfield)

www.midshiresgroup.co.uk

Midshires Mobility Group is a group of mobility companies, and Sutton Mobility is one of the businesses listed as part of it. Sutton Mobility's centre is at 131 Chester Road, Streetly, Sutton Coldfield (B74 2HE). The group advertises free professional assessments at your home, workplace, school or college across mainland England and Wales, and says a large range of demonstration models can be seen at its Midlands head office by appointment. Its range covers powered wheelchairs with a choice of drive bases, seating systems and expandable control systems; configurable manual wheelchairs, including sports chairs and handcycles; paediatric products; and powered add-ons for manual wheelchairs. The group also reports holding Elite Dealer accreditation for Sunrise Medical's Quickie range.

Shire Mobility and Simply Powerchairs (Banbury)

shiremobility.co.uk

Shire Mobility has stores in Northampton, Bicester and Banbury. Its Banbury store, on Castle Street at Castle Quay (OX16 5UN), is described as incorporating Simply Powerchairs, the company's specialist powerchair website. Shire Mobility says assessments are carried out by its own engineers and specialists rather than a third party, and that servicing and repairs are completed by its own engineers. Its range includes standard and custom powerchairs in front, mid and rear-wheel-drive layouts, active and tilt-in-space manual wheelchairs, postural care products and wheelchair power add-ons. Manufacturers featured on its websites include Sunrise Medical, Karma, Invacare and Quantum, among others. The company also mentions home visits and one-to-one consultations as part of its aftercare.

Taylor Made Wheelchairs (Wall Heath, Kingswinford)

taylormadewheelchairs.co.uk

Taylor Made Wheelchairs is a family business based on the High Street in Wall Heath, near Kingswinford (DY6 0HA), towards the outer edge of the area covered by this guide. It specialises in manual and powered wheelchairs and seating, working directly with private clients, in partnership with private occupational therapists, and with NHS referrals. The company describes a four-stage process: an in-depth assessment of your needs and lifestyle, specifying a manual or powered wheelchair from its chosen manufacturers, a handover where the chair is adjusted to you, and a first-year service booked in free of charge. It also offers second-opinion assessments, maintenance and ongoing assessment support, for clients ranging from active and sports wheelchair users to people needing complex powered chairs.

What Should You Ask Before Choosing a Specialist Wheelchair Supplier?

Whoever you speak to, these questions will help you compare like with like.

Assessments

Who carries out the assessment, and what experience or training do they have? Where does it take place: at home, at work, or in a showroom? Is there a charge, and is it deducted if you go ahead? Will they involve your occupational therapist or physiotherapist if you have one? A thorough wheelchair seating assessment should look at how you sit, not just which chair you like the look of.

Demonstrations and trials

Can you try a demonstration chair, ideally set up close to your likely specification? Can you try it at home, getting through your doorways, in and out of your car and around the places you use most? Specialist chairs are not always held in stock, so ask what will be available to try and when.

Wheelchair configuration

Ask for a written specification that lists every option: frame, seat dimensions, backrest, wheels and tyres, castors, controls, seat functions such as tilt or riser, and accessories. This is the easiest way to compare quotes properly.

Seating

Is the cushion and backrest included, or priced separately? If you need pressure care or postural support, ask which seating systems they work with and how they will check that the seating is right for you.

Post-delivery adjustments

How is the chair handed over? Will someone set it up with you and show you how to use it? If it needs fine-tuning after a few weeks of use, is that included, and how quickly can they come back?

Servicing and repairs

Who services the chair, and do they have their own engineers? Do they visit you at home or will the chair need to be collected? What happens if it breaks down, and is a loan chair available while yours is being repaired?

Manufacturer warranties and aftercare

What warranty does the manufacturer provide, and what does it cover, for example frame, motors, electronics and batteries? Does the supplier add any cover of its own? Ask about ongoing support too, because your needs may change over time and the chair may need to be reassessed or adjusted.

Why base prices can be misleading

Specialist wheelchairs vary enormously in specification. Two chairs with similar-looking "from" prices can end up costing very different amounts once the seating, controls, seat functions, wheels and accessories you actually need are added. Some quotes include the assessment, delivery, set-up and first service; others do not. Comparing base prices without understanding what is included rarely gives a fair picture, so always compare full, itemised quotes for the same specification.

NHS and other funding

Depending on your needs, you may be eligible for a wheelchair through your local NHS wheelchair service, and some services offer a personal wheelchair budget that can be put towards a chair you choose privately. It can be worth checking this, and whether the supplier is able to work with your wheelchair service, before you commit.

Choosing the Right Supplier for You

There is no single right answer. The best supplier is the one that takes the time to understand your needs, explains your options clearly, and will still be there to support you after the chair is delivered. We would encourage you to speak to more than one supplier, ask plenty of questions, compare full specifications and aftercare, and choose the supplier and equipment that best suit you.
