What common repairs cost

  • Scooter beeping and won't drive: free. It's usually been left in freewheel. Switch it off, move the lever back to drive, then switch it on again.
  • Battery test: £15 if you drop the batteries into our workshop.
  • New batteries: from about £70 for a small portable. A pair costs £74 to £346 depending on the scooter.
  • Motor, motor brake or transaxle: around £100 on a portable, up to around £400 on a heavy-duty road scooter.

Why a yearly service saves you money

Most expensive repairs start as something small. A service catches worn brakes, tired batteries and loose parts before they leave you stranded. It matters even if you hardly use your scooter. "If you don't use it, you lose it," says Tracy. A scooter left standing in a garage can seize up, like a car battery dying on the driveway.

The cheapest thing you can do is charge properly. Charge for at least 8 hours, ideally overnight. A couple of hours here and there wears batteries out, and charging properly costs pennies compared with hundreds for new batteries.

Your battery health at the service

If you own your scooter, our engineers test the batteries at every service and tell you their health as a percentage.

  • Below 70%: we'll let you know your range will keep dropping.
  • Around 60%: we usually fail the batteries and recommend replacing them.

Whether to change them sooner depends on how much you use your scooter, and we'll talk that through with you.
