Travel chairs cost the least. Chairs with powered tilt, recline, seat lift or specialist seating cost more.
What to think about first
- Indoors or outdoors? Mid-wheel drive turns in tight spaces at home. Rear or front-wheel drive grips better on paths, grass and kerbs.
- Will it go in the car? Folding chairs come apart or fold to lift into a boot. Check who will be lifting it.
- Will it fit through your doors? Measure your narrowest doorway and any tight turns before you choose.
- How far do you go? Smaller chairs cover about 10 to 15 miles per charge; larger outdoor chairs 30 miles or more.
- Do you need support? Tilt, recline and seat lift help with posture, pressure care and getting in and out.

How long does an electric wheelchair last?
With a yearly service, most last 5 to 10 years. Batteries usually need replacing every 12 to 36 months, depending on how much you use the chair and how it's charged.
Can I get one on Motability?

Can I get help with the cost?
You may be able to use an NHS Personal Wheelchair Budget, a charity grant, or VAT relief if you have a long-term condition. We can write a quote your funder will accept.
