The Rascal Vierra LiFe is our most popular scooter, and one of the scooters we hire out at Stratford Shopmobility. Tracy took one round Warwick Castle, and Mike sees it in use every week. Here's what they both think.
The short version
"It's very easy to use, it comes apart easily, and it let me get round Warwick Castle without wearing myself out trying to keep up with everyone," says Tracy. "I honestly couldn't find anything I didn't like."

What Tracy loves
- It's light to lift. "The lithium batteries make it so much easier and lighter to get in and out of the car." It comes apart into five pieces, and the heaviest is 10.8 kg.
- It's comfortable. "I'm 5 ft 7 and it felt the right size for me."
- One-handed driving. "It has a delta bar, so you can drive it with one hand. That's a big help if you have a bad arm."
- Easy controls and an easy-adjust tiller. "There's nothing complicated. You get on and go."
- A swivel seat. "It turns so you can get on and off without twisting, which helps if you have bad hips or knees." Most scooters have one, but it makes a difference.
- Days out. "At Warwick Castle I could keep up with everyone and still enjoy it, instead of being worn out."
The one downside
Tracy didn't find one. Mike's only downside is the weight limit. "It takes up to 21 stone. At the moment there isn't a portable scooter that takes larger users, so if you're heavier you need a bigger scooter that doesn't come apart." Have a look at our best mid-size scooters and the Kymco Maxi XLS, which carries up to 32 stone.
Range
The standard battery gives about 7.6 miles, which is plenty for a day out at a castle or round the shops. If you want to go further, the long range battery gives about 15.3 miles. Range drops with heavier users, hills and cold weather.
Who it suits
The Vierra suits you if you want a scooter for the car, for days out, holidays and shopping, and you're up to 21 stone. It's a pavement scooter, so it isn't for roads or rough country paths. If you need 8 mph but still want to take it in the car, see the Pride Baja Bandit.
Try one first
The Vierra is one of our Shopmobility hire scooters, so you can hire one in Stratford for the day and see how you get on. Day hire is by donation. Call Shopmobility first on 01789 339 736.
"Before you spend a lot of money on a scooter and features you think you need, come and talk to us," says Mike. "We'll put your needs in perspective and advise you on what's right for you, not just what you think might suit you."
