What is an active wheelchair?

It's a lightweight manual wheelchair set up around your body so it takes less effort to push yourself. It suits people who self-propel every day and want a chair that feels like part of them.

Should I choose a rigid or a folding frame?

A rigid frame is usually lighter and more efficient to push because less energy is lost through the frame. A folding frame folds down, which some people find easier for storage and travel.

How much does an active wheelchair cost?

It depends on the frame material, such as aluminium, titanium or carbon, and the options you choose. Prices are on each product page. If you have a long-term condition, you may be able to buy it VAT-free.

How do I get the right size?

Can I add power to my active wheelchair later?

Often, yes. A power add-on such as a push-assist or front attachment can give you extra help on hills and longer trips while you keep your own chair.
